When you hear ‘Notary Public’, you’d be forgiven for imagining a venerable Dickensian gent with a quill pen and wax seal.

 

Not so at Marks & Worth Lawyers, although our Notary Public (aka notary/public notary) Sally Peart, does have an impressive warrant from the Archbishop of Canterbury – written on parchment, no less.

 

1. What’s a Notary Public?

A Notary Public can witness your signatures and certify legal documents to be used internationally: for example, if you own property overseas and need your signature witnessed in order to sell it. A notary public is often required to certify documents for an Apostille.

Sally will officially witness signatures on your legal documents, and certify the authenticity of your documents for use overseas. She can also take sworn statements and oaths. In fact, when she’s in full flow, there are more oaths and swearing going on in our office than at a home for retired sea captains during Friday night happy hour.

- Take declarations, administer oaths, and swear affidavits

- Witness the execution of documents

- Certify copies of documents and true copies of originals

- Authenticate the validity of documents

- Verify your signature, (often necessary when documents need to be sent overseas)
